Dorothy Benton Broughton, 86, of Roanoke Rapids, died Tuesday, May 15, 2012.

Dorothy was a native of Norfolk, VA, the daughter of the late Claude Cephus Benton and Margaret Lowe Benton. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Roanoke Rapids.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George Broughton, her sister Margaret Purdin, her brother Claude Benton, her grandchild Brent Denton, and her son-in-law Rusty Rayfield.

Dorothy is survived by three daughters, Peggy Baines and her husband, ConLee, of Nashville, NC, Barbara Rayfield, and Jerry Mann and her husband, William, all of Roanoke Rapids; thirteen grandchildren, thirty-four great grandchildren, fourteen great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Mae Moore of The Village, FL and Leola Todd of Rapidan, VA; and her brother, Ralph Benton and his wife, Margarete, of Suffolk, VA.

Askew Funeral & Cremation Services in Roanoke Rapids is handling the arrangements, where the family will receive friends on Thursday, May 17, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. and other times at 114 Lakeview Dr., Roanoke Rapids, NC. Funeral services will be held Friday, May 18, at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church with Rev. Dathan Hall and Rev. Rick Gaskins officiating. Entombment will follow at Crestview Memorial Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids.
